History of the Lodestar
Introduced by Columbus McKinnon in 1955, the CM Lodestar became a benchmark electric chain hoist for overhead lifting. Generations of users have relied on its power and dependability in material handling applications. Today, the Lodestar line continues through specialized models like the Classic, NH, XL, VS, and Clean Room hoists.
Timeline of Innovation
- 1955: Columbus McKinnon introduced the CM Lodestar electric chain hoist.
- 2003: The expanded line of Lodestar XL hoists are introduced with lifting capacities up to 7-1/2 tons in order to service high-capacity manufacturing and other applications.
- 2008: CM produced a Lodestar Clean Room version for cleanroom, wash-down, food processing, and circuit board assembly environments.
- 2011: CM introduced the “Next Generation” Lodestar, promoting quieter operation, higher duty cycles, and improved safety features. Simultaneously, the previous generation Lodestar is dubbed the “Lodestar Classic” hoist.
- 2015: CM launched a 2-ton, single-reeved Lodestar for entertainment lifting, making the hoist lighter and easier to rig and transport.
- 2018: The Lodestar VS, equipped with a Magnetek VFD for precision material handling, was introduced to the market.
